This two-day workshop is designed by Cesar Jung-Harada and S.E.A. Aquarium. It will be delivered with Prof Jawn Lim and Abbie Jung-Harada. The workshop will guide participants on the demands of maintaining a healthy marine habitat, alongside current marine issues and encourage them to innovate solutions for the future.

Introduction

Step into the future of Singapore in 2100. For over a century, we’ve been aware of the impending rise in sea levels. However, about 70 years ago, we began preparing Sentosa Island for this inevitable change. Today, on the northern shore, you’ll find the extraordinary Floating Aquarium – a testament to our commitment to preserving marine life. This innovative floating structure was redesigned by you and a team of visionary aquarists to attract marine life that can freely come and go. Through meticulous research of each species’ native habitats, we designed and tested semi-open environments that mimicked their natural homes while ensuring that these habitats were non-toxic. Climate change may have forced marine animals to migrate to seek better living conditions. With this Floating Lab, Singapore now has a ‘marine protected area’ and is a pioneer in proactive habitat management. Curiosity sparks changes. This started when you began asking questions about the aquarium and its inhabitants; today, we find ourselves in a future where design is not built around only human needs, but for the wellbeing of every living creature.
