Comment from Cesar: Lots of interesting variations! What do you think will be determinant for the users? Simplicity? Maximum volume of water held? Maintenance? Reusability? Think hard about the questions you want to ask the Rohingya students.

Also you can ask their favourite fish. And what sort of environment is best for these fishes. In different cultures people like different food. Growing a type of food that is nutritious and popular would help a lot.

1. very practical and detailed drawing 2. The scale of the design is feasible. But we can consider how to use locally available materials instead of shipping, so they can be replaced if damaged 3. Quite complicated 4. Like the idea of incorporating the system into existing structures, importance of teaching in order for it to be sustainable

5. Wondering about access to water? Scale limitations, can you really farm fish in the tanks? 6. Robbi was interested in the idea of using plastic bottles and stack them or lay them out to make a vegetable farm. These used bottles are a big resource to the area

Choose a design to prototype

Bamboo + Bucket have been chosen as the prototype design.

Prototype Material:

  1. Rope / String (Sardonna)
  2. PVC Pipe/Acrylic pipe (Sardonna)
  3. Plastic Cup (Jerry)
  4. Sponge (Jerry)
  5. Electric pump or with solar panel (Oscar)

Instruments

Maintenance of the fish tank

Sponge/ filter cleaning - use paperclip as the tool to retrieve the filter sponge

-Catching the fish - fishnet / barehand

-Cleaning out the water from the fish tank

Planter

-Harvesting the plants - basket to collect the produce

-

Instructions

Feed the fish on a daily basis and harvest the plants every few days.

When harvesting the plants, snap off the outer leaves only. Collect the leaves in a basket.

Provide tank and water pipe maintanence:

  • Unplug the sponge, scrape off the solid attached into the planters every few days
  • When the water quality is below a certain level, take out the fish into an empty bucket, and change water

Project Manage

To help you manage your project, I suggest using a simple project management system like a Kanban/Trello board. Don't forget to

  • Be specific with the task. Link to the source
  • Assign one person per task. Of course, you can collaborate, but one person is responsible for the completion of one task
  • Deadline. So that your team can coordinate and nothing falls between the cracks.
