Brief
“Whether we realize it or not, we live in a designed world. The question is: will this be a design for destruction or for a sustainable new world that we can safely hand down to our children and our children’s children?” Bruce Mau [1]
At the BASc(Design+) Programme, we suggest that the next generation of designers do not have to wait to be handed down a world in crisis, rather that they are potential agents of change to challenge the status quo now. In this intensive hands-on summer programme, students will discover their aspirations, their concerns and will dive into real world issues. They will be introduced to emerging technologies and design approaches that have demonstrated the potential to have both local and global impacts. They will try these novel methods and make them their own. This challenging programme will strengthen their creative confidence while building their character, their portfolio, forge new friendships, and will culminate in the production of practical and conceptual works for a public exhibition.

The Department of Architecture will hold an exciting series of two-week Career Discovery in Design Summer Programme, from 26 July to 9 August 2021 at the Knowles Building, HKU. I am delighted to invite you to join us on a complimentary basis to explore ahead the fun of design making in the architectural world.
Over the course of two weeks, students will experience the dynamics of design education involved with translating abstract concepts to realized designs in architecture. They will be able to unleash their creative potential through a series of workshops, field research, studio activities and lectures - allowing for a broader exploration of design anthropology, prototyping, emerging technologies and design approaches, visual communication, as well as real-world issues. This challenging programme will strengthen their creative confidence while building their character, their portfolio, forge new friendships and will culminate in the production of practical and conceptual works for a public exhibition.
For more details of the programme to click here. Please note that this is a special invitation for students to received admission offers for the BASc Design+ Programme. To apply, please contact Ms Isabel Wong at isabelwg@hku.hk by 22 July 2021, 5:00pm.
We look forward to welcoming you at our Department of Architecture in this summer.
Best wishes, Dr. Eric Schuldenfrei Head of the Department of Architecture The University of Hong Kong
